What you may notice
These patterns are worth a closer look.
They do not diagnose a condition on their own.
You feel down, empty, emotionally numb, or unable to enjoy what usually matters.
You pull away from family, friends, work, or responsibilities and are not sure how to reconnect.
Energy, concentration, motivation, sleep, or sexual interest changes in a persistent way.
Frustration and anger rise while patience and emotional availability decline.
Understanding the concern
Depression can affect mood, interest, sleep, energy, appetite, focus, and self-worth. Some men notice anger, pulling away, drinking more, or low sex drive instead of sadness. Thoughts of death also need attention.
Health conditions, medicines, substances, grief, poor sleep, bipolar disorder, and stress can cause similar symptoms. We look carefully at the cause and the safest next step.
A careful first step
Start with an evaluation.
Understand the pattern.
Make a plan together.
We talk about your symptoms, how long they have lasted, daily life, safety, past episodes, and family history.
We review sleep, substances, medicines, and health. We also check for anxiety, ADHD, trauma symptoms, and bipolar symptoms.
We discuss therapy, medicine, daily habits, and follow-up. The plan is based on your needs and safety.
Treatment planning
Care often includes therapy, medicine, or both. We consider your symptoms, health, preferences, past treatment, and safety before making a plan.
If you are in immediate danger or thinking about suicide, call 911 or call or text 988. This website and Valiant’s text and email channels are not monitored for emergencies.
Common questions
Yes. Some people experience irritability, withdrawal, reduced interest, low motivation, or emotional flatness rather than describing themselves as sad.
Treatment commonly involves psychotherapy, medication, or both. Recommendations depend on symptom severity, health history, preferences, prior treatment, and safety.
For immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. In the United States, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Do not use this website, email, or the practice text number for emergencies.
